The ladies who grew up with shoulder pads and briefcases in the 80s and 90s feel like the younger gals have gone into overdrive. You guys broke the glass ceiling but the Girl Power thing doesn't need to make you nutso. Meanwhile guys have learned very little. They're just doin' their thing and women are still flogging themselves, being cute, making the big money, caring for home.

Stop.

So here's what I've learned. In no particular order. Former Type A business owner and people pleaser and domestic goddess project manager. Reformed. late 50s.

1. Just tell your mate, dude partner whatever...what you want. Guys don't read minds, don't really care if you just give instructions without editorializing. (take out the trash on the way out and put away those plates when they're dry, I'm making a soup later, see you at 7. Will you pick up dry cleaning?) I don't even say please. That makes it like it's a FAVOR. Nah. Just house work. And you'll always see it first unless he grew up with a single mom or is gay and even then. Just ask for what you want. it's easier. Works for foot rubs and unloading the car. You get zero points for being a martyr. And directing begets directing.

2. Do the non profit launch. Who cares if this person says you're never happy yada yada. Yea? Well it's because you're exacting. Just laugh it off, see your project through don't take any of it personally. Because you'll be mad if you don't.

3. Stuff people say about you is usually their own crap. And yes, you are getting your period.
